Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2017
Colour palettes for Fall 2017 lean into warm and comforting classics with refreshing and dynamic accents, says colour authority Pantone. The recently released Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2017 identifies the top colours for men's and women's fashion based on collections showwn at the New York Fashion Week and, for the first time ever, the London Fashion Week. "There is a commonalty between the colours we are seeing on the runway in New York and London," says Pantone Color Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman. "However, individuality is evident and we are seeing a distinct difference between the shows in the two cities in the way these same colours are being combined."
SILVERSTYLES looks at the colours set to dominate the coming season and the silver gems that follow their lead.
PANTONE'S TOP 10 COLOURS FOR NEW YORK
Leaning more to warmth, the Fall 2017 colours palette at the New York Fashion Week is bookended by a dynamic Grenadine red and tawny Autumn Maple. "While comforting, enveloping colours and ease are crucial to the seasonal feeling. Standout shades include a pale pink Ballet Slipper, a refreshing Golden Lime and a bright Marina blue. These hues add a striking touch when paired with the classic autumnal shades of Navy Peony, Neutral Gray, Butterum and Tawny Port," says Eiseman.
A powerful, evocative and dynamic red, Grenadine is a confident and self-assured attention-getter, while Tawny Port takes the Red family to new depths by being elegant, sophisticated and tasteful. Descended from the Red family but with a softer touch, Ballet Slipper is always flattering and reminiscent of the rosy glow of health. Butterum is a snug, warming and toasty shade, which is evocative of drinking a glass of buttered rum by a roaring fire on a cool autumn evening. Dependable Navy Peony is solid and stable, taking some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral. It shares the anchoring role with Neutral Gray, the standard bearer of all neutrals, which can be used as an accent or a head-to-toe statement shade. Shaded Spruce is a forest green, sheltering and protective as evergreen trees. Earthy tones with a twist, the golden undertones of yellow-green Golden Lime make it a refreshing complement to fall classics. The only truly cool colour in the fall palette is Marine, which is fresh, bright and cool with an enhanced tiality. Tawny and russet Autumn Maple, a quintessential colour of the season, introduces warmth into the palette.

PANTONE'S TOP 10 COLOURS FOR LONDON
Red also makes its presence felt at the London Fashion Week, which tempers the colour palette with soothing jewel tones. "Led by a vivid Flame Scarlet, the colour palette for Autumn/Winter 2017-2018 is comprised of strong classic colours complemented by a few unpredictable shades for the autumn and winter seasons. Unexpected combinations such as Royal Lilac and Otter or Lemon Curry with Blue Bell are eye-arresting and create an unusual colour dichotomy," Eiseman notes.
Leading the way is Flame Scarlet, a vivid and powerful red. Primrose Pink, meanwhile, is an embracing and gentle pale pink shade. Toast brings a comforting, warm-hearted presence to the season's colours, while the tranquil Blue Bell reflects connection and a soothing sense of peace. An enchanting purple, Royal Lilac provides a theatrical linkage to the other colours in the palette, while Otter, a country colour that comes to the city, adds an earthy grounding and a sense of rootedness. Dependable, solid and stable Navy Peony also appears in the London palette as an anchoring shade just as the burnished Copper Tan is known for its welcoming warmth. Exotic and spicy, Lemon Curry adds a touch of piquancy to the seasonal colour story, and staunch but stately green Olive provides sturdiness.
